A fast and easy ornament idea for your tree or add a to/from tag to it to decorate a gift!Supplies needed:
Tattered Angels Butterfly Framed Fonts
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist
Versamark Pad
Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel*
Crop-a-dile
Ribbon, and crystals
*You can also use regular clear embossing powder. However, I like the UTEE because the thickness gives a faux enamel look and there is no drying time like with liquid applications. You can also skip the embossing powder step and leave it as is. Or, you can use a liquid glaze, such as Glossy Accents.
1. You will need 2 of the butterflies with the fonts popped out:
2. Peel off the backing (these are self-adhesive!) and stick the 2 butterflies together.(If you want to use a photo in between the 2, skip this step and save it for last. )
A few precautions:
-If you stick them together PRIOR to spraying/embossing: Continuous heating with the heat gun makes the edges of the butterfly buckle a little (you can see this in my finished photos) however it still looks good, as it adds a little dimension. The butterflies will remain firmly attached.
-If you stick them together AFTER spraying/embossing: Sometimes the glimmer mist gets under the backing and the edges lose their stickiness. And, again the heat gun may warp them a little. Just add a tiny bit of glue and place them under something heavy, if you want them to stick together perfectly.
-If you are NOT embossing them: Attach the butterflies first, then spray. The butterlflies will stay in place.
3. Punch a hole at the top with the Crop-a-dile. If you don't have one, you can just tie the ribbon through the main hole. And, hang your crystal or baubles off the ribbon.Spray with one or several different glimmer mist colors. Here I used, Tattered Rose, Lime Twist, and Olive Vine:
4. Use a contrasting and darker color ink to highlight the raised designs. Just rub evenly over the butterfly:
5. This is what is should look like at this point. Don't forget to work on both sides:
6. You can stop here and go to the ribbon/crystal step if you do not want to emboss.
To wet emboss with UTEE, you need a Versamark or embossing ink pad:
7. You can do a light coat or heavy coat. For a light coating, rub the butterfly along the pad lightly.
For a heavy cutting, press the butterfly down on the pad firmly.
Work on one side at a time:
8. Next is the UTEE:
9. Cover the whole butterfly with the UTEE:
10. Firmly tap off all excess UTEE:
11. Use your heat gun to melt the UTEE. Remember, work on one side at a time, and give the other side time to cool off. If it's hot and you set it upside down on something, it will stick!
Do not get to close with the heat gun. Stay about 6 inches away. It takes a little longer for the UTEE to melt, but causes less warping.
(You can go heavier with a second coat of UTEE..just repeat the Versamark process. But, I wouldn't advise it, because it will continue to warp the butterfly and compromise the adhesive)
Side with heavy coating:
12. Side with light coating:
13. Add some ribbon and a crystal and you're done!!
Lots of possibilities with these. Add glitter, stickles, buttons!! There's 36 in a pack, so you can make 18 ornaments!
